Description

Lancross is a mid-19th century, two-storey, four-bay villa designed in an asymmetrical L-plan with gabled roofs. The building is constructed from sandstone and whinstone, featuring bull-faced rusticated margins and dressings, a base course, quoins, projecting eaves, and exposed rafters.

On the southwest elevation, there is a three-bay block with a recessed gabled bay to the right, which includes a modern conservatory in the re-entrant angle. The outer left gable has two ground floor windows and a canted oriel supported by deep moulded corbelling, topped with a fishscale slate roof. To the right, there is a round-headed window, and the right gable features a broad canted window with a single window above and a blind arrowslit in the gablehead. The gable to the right is recessed, with the ground floor now obscured by the modern conservatory, and a round-arched door with roll-moulding and a window above.

The southeast elevation has a gable on the outer right with a full-height canted bay, and a tripartite window to the left. The northwest elevation includes a block on the outer right with a first-floor window at the center, a gable breaking the eaves at the center, and a ground floor window to the outer left. To the left, there is a two-bay block with symmetrically disposed windows and a gable breaking over the first-floor window to the outer left.

The villa features four-pane timber sash and case windows, a purple slate roof with lead flashings, coped ridge stacks, and octagonal cans.

The boundary wall, gates, and gatepiers consist of a whinstone wall with harl-pointing and a rubble semicircular coping. The rusticated piers have pyramidal caps, and there are two-leaf scrolled wrought-iron gates with an integral overthrown and the house name.
