Description

Mount Pleasant is an earlier 19th century farm cottage that was significantly enlarged in 1855. It is a two-storey building with a gabled block and an Italianate square entrance tower, featuring a rambling plan. The exterior is made of painted stugged sandstone with bull-faced rusticated margins, a base course, quoins, projecting eaves, and exposed rafters.

On the southwest (main) elevation, there is an advanced gable on the outer left with a bowed window at the ground level and a slate roof. Above, a Venetian window is located on the first floor, with blank returns on both the right and left sides. The square, three-stage tower is set into the re-entrant angle to the right and features a door with a heavy segmental pediment supported by consoles, a keystone dated 1855, and a round-headed window on the right return. Above the door, there is an armorial plaque with a rope-moulded margin. The upper stage of the tower has two round-headed windows, a rusticated keystone, and quoins. To the outer right, there is a broad gable that is slightly recessed, with a full-height canted bay.

The northwest elevation has a broad gable with a canted window at ground level and a Venetian window above. There is also a lean-to single-storey block on the outer left with a window.

On the northeast elevation, there is a block to the outer left with the tower, and a lower block to the right that includes a bowed jamb with a lean-to single-storey block at ground level.

The windows are primarily plate glass timber sash and case, with some uPVC windows on the gable to the outer right. The roof is covered with grey slate and features lead flashings, a broad coped ridge stack with five tall circular cans on octagonal bases, lattice and spiral motifs, and a small octagonal can to the left.

The interior was not seen in 1993.
