Description

Edgemont is a two-storey Modern Movement house built in 1936 by builder James Dunlop, located at 34 Argyll Road in Dunoon. The exterior features harled brick, metal (Crittal) windows, and a flat roof.

The principal elevation has two bays with canted angles. It includes broad windows on the projecting ground floor, with glazing that continues into the corner splay. Above, there is a balcony with simple metal 'deck' railings and a canopy supported by a central pier, along with a pair of smaller windows behind. The wallhead of the two-storey bays is visible above the canopy. The side elevation features a tall, two-canted metal window.

The rear elevation faces Argyll Road and has an advanced ground floor that extends beyond the main block. It features small windows flanking a central semicircular doorway, which is glazed with a small-pane arrangement. The first floor is recessed above, with another two-canted window and additional small windows flanking it.

The house has metal horizontal-pane glazing in the casement windows, with chevron patterned top hopper panes on the front windows. The flat roofs have coped wallheads. Decorative 'Art Deco' details are present in the rainwater hopper and fixtures on the downpipe that divides the bays at the front ground level.

The interior, which has been partially seen, is appropriately plain.
