Description
The gatepiers at Woodend House, located beside Loch Fad on the Isle of Bute, date from around 1824 to 1833. This structure consists of a row of four octagonal plan gatepiers at the entrance drive. They are made of ashlar and feature corniced caps topped with figurative busts. The vehicular access is flanked by pedestrian gateways. From left to right, the busts represent Philip Massinger, William Shakespeare, Edmund Kean, and David Garrick. The iron gates, which were renewed in 2001, are down-swept.
