Description
This is an earlier 19th century flatted house, refurbished in the late 20th century. It is a two-storey and attic building of seven bays, designed in a plain classical style, with entrances at both the front and rear. The front elevation is nearly symmetrical, arranged as two, three, and two bays, featuring giant order Doric pilasters that divide the bays. The west (rear) elevation is asymmetrical, with a two-storey, two-bay wing projecting to the right.
The building is constructed of cherry-cocked random rubble sandstone, with rendered margins. It has a raised base course and a lintel course beneath corniced eaves, with stugged sandstone quoins and tooled long and short surrounds to the openings, as well as projecting cills. A rendered exterior stair is situated at the rear.
On the north (Columshill Place) elevation, a replacement timber panelled door is set within a rendered architraved doorpiece, centered at No. 3, with a plate glass fanlight above. The east (entrance) elevation, encompassing numbers 5, 5A, and 7, features a replacement timber panelled door in the penultimate bay to the outer left (No. 7), alongside a single window to the outer left. First floor windows are also single, and there is a three-light canted dormer above. A replacement timber panelled door is centered at ground level for No. 5, flanked by single windows, with single windows in all bays at the first floor and three-light canted dormers on the outer left and right. The right-hand side of the elevation incorporates single windows at both floors, and a three-light canted dormer above.
The west (rear) elevation has a replacement timber panelled door set in the penultimate bay to the outer left, with single windows at both floors in the bay to the outer left. A single window is offset to the right on the first floor. A rendered stair leads to a replacement timber panelled door centrally located on the ground floor. Doors and windows are present on both floors to the left of the doorway, with a single window offset to the right on the ground floor. To the right, single windows at both floors are accompanied by a lean-to boarded timber porch with a multi-mullioned door facing north. A large stair window is present on the first floor, accompanied by single windows at both floors and a single piended dormer above.
Windows are predominantly 16-pane timber sash and case on the east elevation and 2-pane timber sash and case on the west, with various rooflights. The roof is covered in grey slate, featuring raised skews, a rendered coped ridge, apex stacks, and circular terracotta cans. The interior was not inspected in 1996.
