16 Columshill Street, Rothesay, Bute

This building at 18 Columshill Street in Rothesay, Bute, is a late 19th-century flatted house that was rehabilitated in 1983. It features a near-symmetrical design with two stories and an attic, originally built as a three-bay structure but modified to four bays at the ground level. The house is constructed from coursed Aberdeen bond sandstone, with raised painted margins and painted strip quoins. It has a raised base course, stugged rubble sandstone quoins, and stugged long and short surrounds to the openings, along with projecting cills. The side of the building is finished in random rubble with heavy pointing.

On the east elevation facing Columshill Street, there is a replacement two-leaf boarded timber door at the center of the ground floor, topped by a plate-glass fanlight. To the outer right, there is a single window at ground level, and two single windows in the two bays to the left. The first floor is regularly fenestrated, featuring three-light slate-hung canted dormers in the outer left and right bays.

The windows are four-pane timber sash and case types. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, featuring raised skews and rendered corniced apex stacks at both the north and south ends, along with various circular cans. The interior was not seen in 1996.
