1 High Street, Banff

1 High Street in Banff is a house dated 1764, featuring three storeys and a symmetrical three-bay design, along with a two-storey and attic single bay return wing facing Institution Road. The building is constructed of squared mixed rubble with painted ashlar margins and dressings, while the return gable and wing are harled. The central entrance boasts a moulded lugged and corniced doorpiece, with each spandrel adorned with a single carved rosette. The first-floor windows are longer, while the second-floor windows are smaller; there is a single ground floor and a later first-floor window in the return gable. The ground floor, second floor, and return gable windows feature four-pane glazing, while the first-floor windows have twelve panes, all made of timber sash and case.

The house has an eaves cornice, margined end stacks, and a slate roof with a sandstone ridge. The flat skews are decorated with moulded and dated skewputt.

Inside, there is a narrow curved staircase, an original moulded cornice in the first-floor parlour on the southeast side with a replacement section above the gable window, and an original plain ashlar chimneypiece in the northeast room.
