8 Back Path, Banff

8 Back Path in Banff is a house dated 1739, featuring two storeys and a dormerless attic above a raised basement. It has a five-bay layout on a sloping site, with its gable end facing High Street. The exterior is harled with ashlar margins, and there is a central door. The ground floor has undergone significant alterations, affecting the window arrangement, while the first floor has regular narrow windows, with paired windows in the outer bays. There are ground, first, and two attic windows in the return gable facing High Street, along with a modern wing that includes a garage on the ground floor and two windows on the first floor. The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass glazing.

Above the central first-floor window, there is an inscribed and dated plaque, and at the corner of Back Path and High Street, there is an angle mural sundial. The east gable features crowstepped detailing and a substantial coped stack, while the west gable has a renewed stack. The roof is slate and includes modern roof lights.

The building has been subdivided, with the upper section now accessed from a ground floor door at 18 High Street. Inside, the layout has been largely reconfigured, but there is evidence of a wide segmental arch exposed within an internal wall leading to the first floor.
