Description
17 Low Street in Portsoy is a house from the mid 19th century, though it likely includes earlier elements. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a return gable facing Low Street. The exterior features heavily pointed rubble with contrasting tooled ashlar sandstone dressings. The main entrance is located on the south elevation, beneath a substantial relieving arch. The first-floor windows are only in the outer bays. There is also an entrance and a raised basement window in the Low Street gable, which features a wide relieving arch revealed in the masonry, along with a wide, crudely chamfered southeast angle that stands about two meters high.
Attached to the west gable is a single-storey and attic irregular four-bay wing, which has a slightly advanced frontage made from similar masonry as the main house. The main house has 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, with variations elsewhere. It has coped end stacks and slate roofs. The main house includes 19th-century rooflights, while the single-storey attic has modern Velux windows.
