Description
22 and 24 North High Street in Portsoy is an early to mid-18th century house that has been divided into two separate residences. The building is two stories high with an attic and features a regular six-bay arrangement on the front, with the bays grouped in a 2-4 configuration. The northern front is harled with plain reveals, while the rear has painted ashlar margins. The northern elevation has enlarged windows and a central entrance for No. 24. There is a part battered base course.
The entrance for No. 22 is located on the first floor of the western gable, accessed by a modern forestair that appears to have been added during the subdivision. This entrance is flanked by blocked windows that have long and short ashlar margins. There is also an additional ground floor doorway below the forestair. The southern elevation features five small windows, likely original to the building, along with a single later enlarged window and three piended wallhead dormers. The sash and case windows have 9- and 12-pane glazing. The building has 19th-century coped end stacks, flat skews, and a slate roof with a pottery ridge.
