Description
5 High Street in Banff is a house built around 1720-1730, featuring three storeys and an attic with five bays. The exterior is harled with painted ashlar margins. The central door is concealed by a rustic porch added in the late 19th century, and there are narrow windows that are paired in the outer bays. The house also has late 19th century canted wallhead dormers in the outer bays, with plate glass glazing in timber sash and case windows, and four-pane windows in the dormers.
The roof is slate with pottery ridge tiles, and there are corniced stacks at each end. Inside, there is a stone wheel stair with moulded risers and a chamfered newel post that rises to the full height of the building, along with a heavy moulded cornice in the first-floor landing. No other original features remain.
