Salmon Fishing Station, 1 Union Road, Macduff

The Salmon Fishing Station, located at 1 Union Road in Macduff, is an early 19th-century building. It features two storeys and a dormerless attic, with an irregular five-bay fishing store constructed on a steeply sloping site. The northern front is accentuated by lower two-storey gabled projecting wings. The building is made of rubble with tooled granite dressings. There are entrances in the wings at the northern side facing the yard, and an additional entrance at the rear (southern elevation) that leads to a raised first floor, accessible by a forestair. The glazing varies throughout the structure. The building has moulded copes on the end and wallhead stacks, topped with slate roofs.

The triangular site is bordered by Union Street and Horn's Brae, enclosed by a high rubble wall. The area around the building is at different levels, with a lower section featuring a yard and an open-sided shed, and an upper section that is grassed and used as a drying green for fishing nets. There is a wide entrance on Horn's Brae, which is closed by simple wooden gates.
