Macduff, 9 Union Road, Outbuilding

9 Union Road in Macduff is an early 19th-century pair of two-storey, three-bay symmetrical houses. They feature a round-headed entrance with a keystone pend at the center. The exterior is made of coursed whinstone rubble with Aberdeen bond pinning, while the rear elevation is also rubble. The buildings have tooled and polished ashlar dressings. Each house has two-leaf timber doors leading to the pend, with a window above the pend on the first floor. The entrance doors have rectangular fanlights, and the door to the right (No 9) includes a corniced and moulded doorpiece. The east gable has a window on the first floor to the right.

The house on the left (No 9) features 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, while the house on the right (No 11) has 2-pane glazing in similar windows. Both houses have panelled and coped ashlar ridge and end stacks, with the west gable stack truncated, circular clay cans, and straight skews. The pitched roof has some later rooflights.

Inside, No 9 includes panelled window shutters.

At the rear, there is a high-walled yard enclosed with an entrance to the east. There are also a pair of long single-storey and attic rectangular-plan stone-built outbuildings from the 19th century, which abut the hillside to the south and have a pitched, corrugated asbestos roof.
