42, 42A Marischal Street, Aberdeen

42 and 42A Marischal Street in Aberdeen is a townhouse built around 1789 to 1821. It stands three stories tall with an attic and features two bays, situated on a sloping site. The exterior is made of grey granite ashlar and includes an eaves band. The central tripartite windows on the second and third stories have stone mullions. The recessed doorway has a timber panelled door, which is flanked by Tuscan columns that support a large fanlight. There is a cast-iron plant railing at the second-story window.

The side elevation (north) is five stories high with three bays and has regular window placement. It features a segmental arched opening on the ground floor to the right and a pair of attic dormers. The windows are multi-pane timber sash and case with glazed margins. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there is a red brick stack on the left gable with granite ashlar facing. Clay cans and recessed cast-iron rainwater goods are also present.
