28, 30, 32 Marischal Street, Aberdeen

28, 30, and 32 Marischal Street in Aberdeen is a classical townhouse built around 1780. This three-storey building with an attic features a symmetrical five-bay design and is situated on a sloping site. It is constructed from Loanhead granite ashlar with raised margins and has a moulded eaves course. The central entrance has a timber door topped by a rectangular fanlight with oval timber tracery. To the left, there is a double-leaf door (No 32) with an identical fanlight and flanked by six-pane fixed windows. A further timber door is located at the fifth bay, with a fixed-pane window to its right. The building also includes three canted piended dormers.

The first and second floors have 12-pane timber sash and case windows, and the roof is covered with grey slate. The left gable features an ashlar coped skew, while there is a coped granite ashlar stack with clay cans. The property has cast-iron rainwater goods.

Inside, the first-floor rooms retain 18th-century panelling. In 1990, the building was converted into five modern flats while maintaining the original layout of the rooms. A half oval staircase is located at the rear, and ornate plaster work can be found in the arched alcoves of the reception rooms, along with moulded cornicing. Two Tuscan order columns, salvaged from houses that were demolished for the widening of Virginia Street, have been reused in the porch facing the garden, making them clearly visible from Virginia Street.
