17 Greenanlough Road, Greenan, Newry, Co Down, BT34 2PY

This is a derelict, single-story, two-bay vernacular house located in Greenan Wood, on the west side of Greenan Road. The building dates from approximately 1800 to 1819. The house appears on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834, and although not included in the first Valuation (around 1835), it is likely the same building as currently exists. The front elevation, facing east, features a slightly advanced, gabled porch with remnants of a timber bargeboard over the gable, and a doorway that is now absent. Single window openings are situated to the left and right of the porch. The left and rear elevations are blank, and the right gable is adjoined by a lower, derelict outbuilding. The roof was originally natural slate but is now mostly gone. The walls are whitewashed rubble stone with advanced eaves. A pair of cylindrical rubble stone gate piers support a pair of wrought iron gates in front of the property. A historical survey card from 1970 describes the building as a single-story cottage with harled walls and a slated roof, featuring double-hung windows with sashes divided into two by single vertical glazing bars, and a porch with a sheeted entrance door.
