Dromahare House, 39 Kilkeel Rd, Annalong, Newry, Co Down, BT34 4TL

Dromahare House is a single-storey house likely dating from between 1900 and 1919. It is an attractive architectural composition and first appears on the 1919 Ordnance Survey map, confirming its early 20th-century date. The house faces southeast and has a hipped slate roof with crested ridge tiles, terracotta hip knobs, eaves boards, and moulded rainwater goods. Three tall, cement-rendered chimneys with projecting caps and pots are present – one central, and one on each gable. The walls are cement-rendered with a cill course and alternating raised quoins. A central porch with a gable roof, barge boards, and a door with a segmental transom light and side lights is present; the porch render is lined to resemble ashlar. Canted bay windows with hipped dormer roofs flank the façade, alongside a pair of sliding sash windows on either side. A low extension, stepped back from the main facade, replicates the detailing of the main house. The rear of the property has also been extended. A garden path, flanked by rose beds, gate posts, and a traditional gate, leads to the house. While the render, windows and chimneys are relatively new, they have been executed to a high standard, closely reflecting the original design. Despite this, insufficient historic fabric remains to justify a formal listing.
