Description
Moneydarragh House is a two-storey, four-bay house dating from the mid to late 19th century, with a two-storey block at the rear creating a double-pile arrangement. The pitched roofs are covered with natural slates and concrete copings, and there are three chimneys – one on each gable and one on the party wall between the third and fourth bays. Cast iron rainwater goods are present. The walls are of unpainted cement render over granite rubble. The south elevation features a modern front door on the left side of an entrance porch, which has a natural slate hipped roof and a single-paned window in its sidewalls. There are 1/1 sliding sash windows to each bay on either side of the porch, and three matching windows on the first floor, aligned with those below. The fourth bay on the right has two sets of paired sliding sash windows, one on each floor, which are larger than the windows in the three bays to the left. Windows are also present on both floors of the west gable. The rear elevation abuts a two-storey block, with windows and a door on the left gable. A single-storey dwelling, in separate ownership, adjoins the rear of this block and is aligned along the roadside, and has cement-rendered walls, a slated roof, and dressed granite chimneys. Miscellaneous outhouses are located around a yard at the rear. A cow-tailed water pump sits in the front garden, which is enclosed by a rendered wall and mature planting. The property has been in the ownership of the same family for at least four generations. Buildings were depicted on an Ordnance Survey map of 1834, but the current house appears to date to the later 19th century. A two-storey block was added before the First World War and served as a net drying loft, while the single-storey extension was previously used as a shop.
