151 Kilkeel Road, Annalong, Newry, Co Down, BT34 4TL

This is a two-and-a-half storey building of probable construction between 1800 and 1819, originally part of the Water Guard Station, and later transferred to the Coastguard Service. It is aligned north-east to south-west, with its main elevation facing Kilkeel Road. The building’s architectural character has been significantly altered by later additions and replacements.

The roof is gabled, covered with natural slates, and features three rendered chimneys (one at each gable and one in the middle), along with metal rainwater goods. The walls are harled and painted. The south-east (front) elevation is dominated by a large, modern shop window on the right-hand side of the ground floor. To the left of the shop window are two 6/6 sliding sash windows, and a modern glazed door is positioned centrally. The first floor has six 6/6 windows; two on the left are double-glazed with PVC frames, while the remaining four are sliding sash windows. All windows have painted granite cills. The south-west (gable) elevation shows two replacement windows at first floor level, with the window to the right being larger than the original and featuring a concrete cill. Two attic windows are present, but are now infilled. A nondescript single-storey extension abuts the north-east elevation. The rear elevation includes a later, large single-storey return with a pitched roof and sliding metal doors.

A 1834 Ordnance Survey map (sheet 56) depicts the building as part of the Water Guard Station. A photograph from the Historic Monuments Record, dated 1977, shows a symmetrical front elevation, with two 6/6 sash windows and a panelled door with transom light on the ground floor right, mirroring the appearance on the left. The gable elevation in the photograph displays a 4/4 sliding sash window to the first floor left and a sheeted loading door to the right. The attic windows are shown as 6/6 sliding sash windows. The building is currently in use as an office and sits within the townland of Moneydorragh More.
