1-8 Shore Row, Magheramorne, Larne, Co Antrim, BT40 3HU

These are a group of late Georgian cottages located in Magheramorne, County Antrim. They were built between 1820 and 1839 by John Irving, who owned the Magheramorne estate, as part of a scheme to provide twelve double cottages for labourers, with the remainder located on Quinton Avenue. The cottages were originally single-storey, with harled and whitened walls, slated roofs with wide eaves overhangs, and timber sliding sash windows. At the time of their construction, they were described as having three roomy apartments with spacious lattice windows, earth floors, plastered walls, rendered roofs, good chimneys, and a plan intended to make them dry and warm, with projecting eaves and a neat appearance.

However, the cottages have undergone extensive alterations and now retain virtually none of their original exterior features; the window patterns, wall finishes, and roof coverings have been changed, and a second storey has been added to one of the properties. Only one cottage retains a slight resemblance to its original appearance, but it has replacement cement render and windows of a different form. They stand on an elevated site in a rural setting, set back from and overlooking the main road. The cottages appear on an Ordnance Survey map dated 1857.
