Old quay for lime works at, Magheramorne Cement Works, 100 Shore Road, Magheramorne, Larne, Co Antrim

The Old Quay at Magheramorne Cement Works is a small, derelict quay built of large, squared limestone blocks laid in courses, with battered faces. It dates from around 1804 to 1819, a period when Mr Farrell, the owner of the Magheramorne estate, developed the lime works. The quay is a relic of the early Georgian origins of what was then the largest lime works in the British Isles, and is visible on an Ordnance Survey map from 1832. Adjacent to the original quay is a later bulwark constructed from bags of cement, the rotted Hessian bags leaving an imprinted woven pattern on the surface. This construction method likely dates from the early 20th century. The quay is situated on the shore of Larne Lough, within the Magheramorne Cement Works site, with a railway line immediately behind it. Derelict lime kilns, contemporary with the quay, are visible further inland. The structure holds industrial archaeological interest and is recorded as derelict.
