Bridge, Aghnashammer/ Rosslea, Co Fermanagh

This is a single-span road bridge, likely constructed between 1840 and 1859. It carries a two-lane road over the River Finn, near Aghnashammer and Rosslea in County Fermanagh. The bridge is built of very finely dressed sandstone throughout. A distinctive feature is its non-orthogonal soffit, set at a pronounced angle reflecting the skew of the arch. The arch itself is formed of vee-jointed voussoirs with a rusticated keystone. The remainder of the bridge is constructed with random blocks laid in courses. Shallow, tapered buttresses flank the bridge, and the parapets are topped with shouldered saddleback copings. A metal pipe runs across the downstream (south) face. The bridge appears on the first edition of the Ordnance Survey 6-inch map of 1834, and is confirmed on the second edition of 1857. The bridge is of industrial archaeological interest.
