Description

This is a small-scale sandstone bridge dating to the mid-19th century, likely constructed between 1840 and 1859. It is of group value, representing a typical example of its type. The bridge consists of a single segmental skew span that carries a one-and-a-half lane road over a stream. The abutments are built of dressed sandstone blocks laid in courses, and feature finely dressed voussoirs with rusticated keystones. The remainder of the bridge is constructed with random sandstone blocks, while the soffit stones are laid orthogonally. The parapets are coped with larger blocks, with the central and end blocks being raised and rusticated. The bridge first appears on the 1858 Ordnance Survey 6-inch map, confirming the mid-19th century date. It exhibits characteristics of industrial archaeological interest.
