Description

Disused lime kiln on N side of minor road behind a modernised vernacular house. Aligned N-S, with rear section cut into bank, here quarried to each side. Of random rubble with dressed stepped quoins. Single cylindrical brick-lined pot, 1.5m diameter; now partly infilled with rubbish. Face measures 5.0m wide and stands 5.7m high. Draw hole accessed by a semicircular headed opening, the jambs of which are cement rendered. This opening measures 2.5m wide and rises 2.8m to the crown. The soffit is of hand-made brick and slopes down to the draw hole proper. This is set in a small random rubble wall and is trimmed with brick.
