Description
This is a disused limekiln located in East Budleigh, dating from the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed from red brick and local stone rubble, terraced into a natural hillslope and facing southwest. The kiln features a circular, funnel-shaped burning chamber lined with brick, which could be loaded from the hilltop. The front and sides of the kiln are supported by local stone rubble, with the front curving forward. It includes a segmental-headed raking hole at the bottom, topped by a crank-headed relieving arch. Just below the brick parapet, there is a large oak strengthening girder integrated into the front. The limekiln remains complete and has not been back-filled.
