Description
Christophers is a cottage, likely dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It's built with plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with stone rubble or brick stacks topped with 19th-century brick, and a thatched roof. The cottage has a long, three-room plan, facing west and set back from the road. The entrance is positioned between the left-hand and central rooms. Stacks are located at the left end, axially within the centre room, and projecting from the right end. The cottage is two storeys high. The front has a varied pattern of late 19th to early 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars; five on the ground floor and four on the first. The front doorway, slightly left of centre, contains a 19th-century six-panel door, with the top two panels now glazed, and a 20th-century trellis porch. The roof is gable-ended. A pointed arch window with what is believed to be tracery and narrow margins of leaded glass is found in the left end wall at first-floor level. The interior, not inspected during the survey, is reported to have simple carpentry detailing. According to the owner, the building was previously used for industrial purposes before being converted into a house.
