Description
This disused lime kiln, situated on a north-facing slope at the southeast corner of a farm complex, is primarily of local interest and possesses industrial archaeological value. Construction likely occurred in the mid-19th century, with the kiln first appearing on the 1859 Ordnance Survey 6-inch map. While its absence from the 1833 Ordnance Survey map warrants caution, a date between 1820 and 1839 is suggested. The kiln consists of a single rounded pot built from local rubble fieldstones, measuring 2.1 metres in diameter and now partly infilled. A short loading ramp is located at the rear. A ramped track leads up to the west side of the kiln from the farmyard. The front and sides are constructed of roughly squared granite rubble, measuring 4.6 metres wide by 3.1 metres high. A central opening, 1.4 by 1.35 metres high, leads to the draw hole, which slopes down and narrows to the draw hole proper. The kiln is situated on private land and is not listed.
