Description
This substantial former lime kiln, built in 1870, has a square plan and features battered sides, set into a steeply sloping bank. The walls are constructed from random granite rubble, accented with stugged sandstone ashlar dressings. The east elevation has a segmental-arched opening, made of rubble voussoirs, which provides access to a brick-vaulted entrance tunnel or draw-arch. At the rear, there is a furnace opening and a draw-hole or eye. In the center of the kiln, there is a roughly semicircular brick-lined charging-hole or furnace pot, which rises to a splayed mouth at the kiln-head.
