Description

Two storey / three bay mid 19th C gate lodge serving the eastern approach to Cabra House (HB16/07/031A). Hipped natural slate roof with overhanging bracketed eaves. Semicircular plastic rainwater goods. Walls are wet dashed and painted (modern) with smooth cement rendered basecourse. Front elevation is S facing and is divided into three bays by full height segmental headed wall recesses. Main entrance is on central bay and contains a modern glazed plywood door. Remaining bays at ground and first floor each have a single window. All are modern timber casements with transom, fixed side light and painted granite cills. Left elevation continues left as the cheek of a two storey rear return. It has a modern window at ground floor left (on return) and one at first floor right (to main block), both with concrete cills. Rear elevation is abutted at right by a two storey return and to left by a small single storey one. The remaining wall at first floor left is blank. The two storey return has a pitched natural slate roof (tied into main roof) and overhanging eaves (no brackets) and a plain bargeboard. Its walls are as front elevation and its windows are similar but with thin concrete cills. The single storey return has a flat felted roof and walls as main block. It has a modern door and a single modern window on its rear wall. Its right cheek abuts the two storey return and its left cheek is flush with the right elevation of the main block. Right elevation of main block is a one bay wide and has a segmental headed wall recess, which contains a modern window on each floor. Boundary to S of house (along drive to main house) has cast iron posts but fence is gone. To its SE are the gates and screen (described with house).
