Description

West Hayes is a semi-detached house located on Main Road, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from local stone that has been cut and squared, topped with a low-pitched Welsh slate roof featuring stepped coped gables and brick chimney stacks. The house has two storeys and three bays, with sash windows that have 16 panes in plain openings, and stone lintels above. The second bay has a part-glazed door set in a recess. The interior has not been seen.

Attached to the south side of West Hayes is Melbury Farmhouse. Approximately 5 metres to the north, there is a farm building that may date from the 18th century, made of coursed rubble lias stone with a corrugated sheet iron roof between high gables that suggest it may have originally had thatch. This building features a blocked doorway at the front and a high-set casement window in the south gable. The interior has not been seen. This farm building contributes to the setting of West Hayes and is presumably a former part of Melbury Farm.
