Description
Maddisons is a semi-detached house located on Main Road in Long Load. Built in the later 18th century, it is constructed primarily of local grey lias stone, cut and squared. The roof is covered with clay pantiles, which likely replaced an earlier thatch covering, and features stepped coped gables with brick end chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high and has three bays. It has sash windows with 16 panes, set within plain openings with voussoired flat arches. A late 19th-century part-glazed door is situated in an open timber and tiled porch on the lower bay to the right. On the north-west corner, there is an outhouse with a double Roman clay tile roof. The outhouse has a halved door in its west wall and a loft door in its north gable, accessible by a metal approach stair. The interior, based on reports and illustrations, includes a cross-passage, a 2-room plan, and a lean-to at the rear. A large fireplace with a chamfered wood bressumer is found in the north gable, and the roof is supported by collar trusses.
