Description
Melbury Farmhouse is a semi-detached farmhouse, likely built in the 18th century, with modifications and partial raising in the 19th century. It is constructed from local Lias stone that has been cut and squared, and features double Roman clay tiled roofs with stepped coped gables at the ends and plain gables in the center, which is raised in proportion. The building has two storeys and four bays. The first and second bays have been raised and include margined sash windows with stone lintels, while there is a part-glazed door set in a plain recess in the lower part of the second bay. The third and fourth bays are not entirely of the same construction and feature two-light small plain casements above, along with a single central matching casement both above and below. Attached to the south gable is a long farm building with a throughway next to the house, which has two casements set high under the eaves and a plain doorway to the lower left. The interiors have not been seen, but reports mention a fireplace with a beaded surround and open roof trusses.
