Description

Day's House is a detached house located on Main Road, dated 1717. It is constructed from Ham stone near-ashlar with coursed rubble on the sides and rear, and features a plain clay tile roof with a stepped coped gable on the south side and a plain gable on the north. The house has two storeys and an attic, comprising four bays.

The windows are ovolo-moulded mullioned windows with three lights and labels in bays one and three, with the first bay featuring horizontal bar inserts. Bay two contains 12-pane sash windows in plain openings. Between bays one and two, there is a moulded cambered-arched doorway topped with a moulded flat stone hood supported by simple brackets. Bay four has a tall stable-type door beneath a timber lintel.

On the north side, there is a waggon-way with a roof supported by two tall stone piers, and the side wall against the house is timber-boarded over a lias stone base with a tie-beam roof. There is an additional mullioned window in the south gable and an oval attic window. The rear of the house has extensions. A datestone above the front doorway reads "CD1717."

While the interior has not been seen, it is reported to have a central cross-passage and a two-room plan with an outshut, but no significant internal features. An attempt to extend the house into the side barn appears to have been abandoned.
