Description

Duchess Cottage is a cottage located on Main Road, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from local grey lias stone that has been cut and squared, topped with a triple-roll clay tiled roof that has a shallow pitch and coped gables, along with brick chimney stacks. The cottage has two storeys and three bays. It features horizontal bar casement windows with two lights, which are situated under large stone lintels. In the lower bay two, there is a boarded door set in a simple opening. Although the interior has not been seen, it is noted to have a cross passage two-room plan with a later lean-to at the rear. Attached to the north side of Duchess Cottage is Rose Cottage.
