Description

No. 5 and the adjoining Town Council Chamber are late 18th century buildings, with the Council Chamber added around 1860. They originally served as the Urban District Council Offices. The structures are finished in stucco with a slate gabled roof, featuring ridge tiles and end brick chimney stacks, along with carved bargeboards and finials. The buildings are two-storeys plus an attic, with a three-window front that includes casements with horizontal glazing bars, raised voussoirs, and keystones. There is a central flat roof porch supported by Tuscan columns, leading to a panelled door. The quoin stones are painted. A dormer with a modern clock face is present. To the right is the Council Chamber and Offices, which are single-storey, also in stucco with a slate roof, and feature two casement windows and a doorway on the right.
