Description

Waterloo Cottages are a row of three picturesque cottages, possibly dating from the late 17th century with later alterations. They are located on Mill Street in Watchet. The cottages are constructed of random rubble stonework with rendered fronts, and have thatched roofs and brick chimney stacks. They are two storeys high, with five windows to the first floor and four half-dormers. The windows are mostly metal casements in wooden frames, some with leaded lights; the first floor windows have two or three lights, and the ground floor windows have three lights, with flat-headed doorways featuring plain boarded doors. Later single-storey lean-to extensions with double-roman tiles are present at the rear. Waterloo Cottages are the only surviving thatched-roofed buildings in Watchet.
