Description
Morden Cottage is a villa that now serves as Council offices. It was built in the early 19th century and features a combination of stucco and painted weatherboarding, with a slate roof that is hipped to the eaves and partly visible. The building exhibits elements of the neo-Tudor style and is two storeys high. The north front has four bays, with two on the left side that are weatherboarded and two on the right that are earlier stucco.
The entrance is located in a slightly projecting crenellated porch on the right, leading through a moulded architrave to a slightly painted arched doorway. The square-headed windows have dripmoulds on the stuccoed wing, while the ground floor windows are sashes with glazing bars. The upper floor features French casements with wrought iron balconies. The roofline is adorned with a crenellated parapet and traceried pinnacles.
On the left side, there is a canted bay window on the ground floor with casements, and a square-headed sashed window on the upper floor, which also has glazing bars and cast iron window guards. The return and garden front, which is weatherboarded, is also of architectural interest. The interior has not been inspected.
