Description

ST53SW KEINTON MANDEVILLE CP CHISTLES LANE (South side)

2/90 The Old Dovecote in south east corner of grounds to Keinton Mandeville County Primary School -

II

Dovecote. Possibly C18 with C20 roof. Local lias stone roughly cut and squared; clay pantiled lean-to roof. Rectangular plan. Plain doorways on north, east and west faces; in west gable pierced stone slabs with stone slate shelves for birds, 2, 4 and 6 holes in layers. Inside room for 21 nests on north wall, 1 on west wall and 6 on east wall, all formed with heavy rough lias slab shelves; Keinton stone flag floor. Unusual building of its type; the nest holes larger than usual; and building isolated and not obviously connected with any older property. This structure is possibly a bee house.
