Description
Irving House is a house in a row, built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, with some ashlar dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate and features a sawn stone ridge, a coped east gable, and a brick end chimney stack on each side. The house has two storeys and three bays, with a lower one-bay extension on the east side. The windows are 16-pane sash windows set in plain openings with voussoired flat arched heads. In the lower bay two, there is a six-fielded panel door located in a dressed semi-circular arched recess, topped by a radial glazed fanlight. Above the door, there is a bronze tablet that notes, "Here was born Henry Irving, Knight, Actor, 6th February 1838," with his real name being John Henry Broadribb. The interior has not been seen.
