Description
Togford and the barn adjoining to the northwest are a farmhouse and barn that have been converted into a cottage with a garage. The cottage dates back to the 16th century and may have been altered in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed from red sandstone random rubble and features a thatched roof that is hipped to the right, with stone stacks located at the left gable end and to the right of the cross passage. The building has a plan that suggests it was possibly an open hall house, now ceiled to form three cells and a cross passage. It stands one and a half storeys tall and has three bays, with three and four-light wooden casements and eyebrow dormers on the first floor. The ground floor has two windows to the right and one to the left of the entrance, which is flanked by raking buttresses, with another end bay to the left and a plank door. Inside, there is a jointed cruck truss roof and remains of a stair bay to the right of the left gable end fireplace. The right gable end wall was likely rebuilt in the 18th century and features chamfered beams with enriched stops. The adjoining threshing barn, dating from the 18th century, is also made of red sandstone random rubble and has a thatched roof with a six-bay collar and principal roof.
