Description

Wynes is a cottage with an attached barn located on Hill Street in Stogumber. It dates back to the early 17th century and was enlarged in the 18th century. The main block is rendered, while the south addition is roughcast, and the roofs are covered with asbestos slate at varying pitches. There is an external stepped stack on the left gable end facing the road, another brick stack at the junction with the barn, and a truncated brick stack at the gable end of the independently roofed southern addition.

The layout consists of two or three cells and a cross passage, with a stair turret on the west front. The barn is attached to the north, and there is an unidentified unlit single-storey projection at the junction, along with a two-storey block at right angles to the south, which faces the road. The site slopes down to the south and east.

The east front features one and a half storeys with a tall two-light dormer casement added to the roof. On the ground floor, there are two-light casements flanking a plank door that is accessed by steps. The left projecting wing is lit on the first floor by an early 19th-century four-light mullion window, with a plank door below it. There is also a glazed opening on the ground floor gable end and additional lighting on the left return facing the road. The main entrance is now through a half-glazed door located in the southwest corner. The interior has not been viewed.
