Description

This is a farmhouse with an attached barn, located on the north side of Hawes Road in Garsdale. The building likely dates from the early 18th century and has been altered over time. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble, with the house being white-washed and featuring stone slate roofs on two levels. The layout is a T-plan, consisting of a single-depth, two-unit main range oriented east-west and facing south, with a short gabled wing at the rear and the barn extending at the west end.

The exterior is two storeys high and has three windows arranged in a 2:1 grouping. There is a square-headed doorway in the center and a slightly lower doorway to the right, both featuring board doors; the central doorway has a rectangular lintel. On the left side, there are two 9-pane fixed windows on each floor, with one opening pane in the top right corner of each. To the right, there is one slightly smaller window on each floor, the first-floor window having similar glazing with an opening pane, while the ground-floor window has altered glazing. A large square chimney is located at the left gable, and there is a lateral chimney at the right-hand gable.

The barn, which is slightly lower than the house, is a long range with a one-bay extension at the west end. It features three doorways with large lintels and small square windows next to the doorways, one of which has an original unglazed 4-light oak mullioned frame, though some of the mullions are damaged. There are also through-stones and small square breathers for the upper level. At the rear, the short gabled wing contains a staircase and has a small blocked window at ground level. The barn includes a loading doorway to the loft and two additional doorways leading to the sheep-loft.

Inside the house, there is an 18th-century built-in cupboard with two doors and shaped panels.
