Description

Raygill Farmhouse is a pair of farmhouses in two occupations, both belonging to the same family, with part of the building used as a barn. It dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century and has been altered over time. The structure is built of coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and some through-stones, while the domestic portion is painted white.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and features a two-to-three window arrangement. It has a single-depth three-unit plan oriented east-west and faces south, with the barn extending at the west end. On the ground floor, there is a doorway to the left, followed by a three-light chamfered mullion window (with the third light blocked) beneath a continuous drip-band. Next to this are two square windows, another doorway with a painted plain surround, and to the right, an oblong window and a rectangular window. The upper floor has five square windows, all of which, except for the mullioned window, have altered glazing. There is a gable chimney on the right and a cut-down ridge chimney at the junction with the barn on the left.

Inside, the building has been altered, but the room at the east end of the ground floor contains a spice cupboard marked with the letters "D / I I," which stands for John and Isabella Dawson.
