Description
Folly Farmhouse is a pair of attached houses that were originally a farmhouse with an attached barn, likely built in the 18th century. The structure is made of rubble and cob, topped with a thatched roof, and consists of two storeys. There are brick stacks at the gable ends and an axial brick stack. The smaller of the two dwellings on the left is the original farmhouse, featuring a symmetrical facade and a thatched outshut at the rear that was formerly used as a dairy. The barn on the right was converted into a dwelling in the early 20th century, during which a two-storey extension with a castellated parapet was added to the rear.
The building has a six-window range, with two-light casements, except for the second window from the right, which is a single light. On the ground floor, there are four three-light windows, with the leftmost window being a canted bay with a pantiled roof. There are two porches, one with a pantiled roof on the left and the other with wooden slats on the right. All windows feature diamond leaded lights. Inside the barn portion, there is 17th-century dado panelling that is two panels high, along with two original plank doors located in the room to the left of the entrance hall. This panelling is said to have come from Northgate, Barnstaple.
