Description

Beacon Cottage is a late 18th-century cottage situated on encroachment from Braunton Down, built on a classic squatter cottage plan with a 1½ cell layout. The walls are constructed of rubble and cob, topped with a thatched roof featuring a small brick stack at the left gable and a rubble stack with brick in the upper parts to the right. A continuous outshut with a slated lean-to roof extends to the rear. The cottage is two storeys high. On the front, there are two 2-light metal casement windows with 6 panes to each light on the right end, a larger 2-light window with 6 panes each light, and a 9-paned casement window to the left of a slightly offset plank door. The door is sheltered by a small projecting porch with a pantiled hood.
