Description
Lauriston is a detached house located in Town Barton, dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of roughly coursed rubble Doulting stone, which was once rendered, and features a Welsh slate roof with stone ridge tiles. The gables are coped, and there are end ashlar stone chimney stacks with moulded caps, along with an ashlar stone parapet that includes a string course and moulded coping.
The building is two stories high with a basement and has a two-window front. The central entrance door is a six-panel design, with the top four panels glazed, and is set within a bead-moulded stone architrave. Above the door is a flat, edge-moulded stone hood slab supported by carved brackets. The windows are two-light, eight-pane sash windows framed in bead-moulded stone.
To the left of the main house is a return wing, which is older than the main structure. This wing is made of squared, coursed Doulting stone and has a patent clay tile hipped roof with a decorative clay ridge and a single brick chimney stack. On the first floor of the wing, there is a three-light, twelve-pane sash window set in a bead-moulded stone mullion frame, and a similar two-light window on the return elevation, although this one features 20th-century glazing.
