Description

Hermitage House is a detached house dating from the late 17th and early 18th centuries, situated within the grounds of Farleigh Castle. The house is constructed of lime-washed rubble Doulting stone, with weathered string courses above the windows and a gabled roof covered in stone slates. It has two storeys with an attic, and a three-window facade, having a rectangular plan with a projecting gable-roofed entrance porch positioned between the first and second windows. The front door is a plain boarded door set in a square head opening. The windows are predominantly two-light stone mullion windows with two-pane casements. To the right of the entrance is a three-light timber mullioned staircase window, with a timber lintel above. Chimney stacks are built of rubble stone and positioned off each gable end, and centrally off the ridge.
