Description

Hedging Barton is a house that dates from the 14th and 15th centuries, with alterations made in the 17th and 19th centuries. It features a rendered exterior and roofs made of pantiles and triple Roman tiles, along with two brick ridge stacks. The building is an open hall house that was floored in the 17th century, consisting of a single storey and an attic. The ground floor has six windows, which are two and four-light casements with glazing bars, and there are similar windows on the first floor set in pent roofed half dormers. The entrance has a door opening with a moulded four-centred arch wooden surround and a studded plank door. At the rear, there are two early wooden mullioned windows, one of which is obscured by a 20th-century outshut. A notable interior feature is the roof, which is constructed with jointed crucks, along with a winder staircase, a plank and muntin screen on the first floor, and a fireplace with a broad wooden bressumer.
