Description
Palfreys is a house that dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is built from coursed and squared rubble with freestone dressings and features coped verges and three brick stacks. Originally an open-hall house, it was later modified to a three-room and through-passage plan. The building has a single storey and attic, consisting of two bays. It includes two three-light casement windows and one single-light casement window, with a window on the first floor set in a pent-roofed half-dormer. There is also a four-light stone-mullioned window on the ground floor, featuring iron casements and leaded lights, with a stopped label. The door opening into the through-passage is a 20th-century plank door fitted with 17th-century iron strap hinges and a massive wooden architrave. Additionally, there is a three-light stone-mullioned window and casements on the left return. Inside, the central ground floor room has a panelled ceiling and a fireplace with a wooden bressumer. The roof is constructed using cruck framing.
