Description
The churchyard cross located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Catherine dates back to the 15th century, with some recutting and alterations made in the 17th century. It is made of dressed stone and features a base consisting of three octagonal steps with dripmoulds. Above this is a massive square socket with broaches and an octagonal upper bed. The shaft tapers and is square in plan, topped with a ball finial. The cross has been cut down from its original height. On the south face, there is a sculpture of St. Michael, depicted with a sword and shield as he vanquishes the Dragon. This figure is set under a canopied niche on a bracket, which is supported by two small carved figures of priests in canonicals.
